Long-Term Care Nurse Certification Prep Course

Class #1 Role of the LPN.  In this session we discuss the LPN role vs the RN role, the Nurse Practice Act and how it differs from state to state.  We also review detailed and comprehensive documentation, provide sample tools, and discuss the LPN role in teaching and collecting resident data.

Class #2 Medical Conditions. This entire class is focused on reviewing several common medical conditions in older adults including cardiac, arthritis, conditions of the eye, diabetes, gastrointestinal and sleep disorders. 

Class #3 covers Alzheimer’s disease vs dementia and discusses the various types of dementia.  We also review falls and interventions, as well as cover several slides on Abuse and Neglect.

 Class #4‘s session is about medication administration, death and dying, skin and wounds, and resident assessments.  In this class we cover the 10 rights of medication administration, skin and wounds, and we give some suggested recommendations on dealing with death and dying.

Class #5 covers Legal issues and time management.  We cover Libel, Liability and Torts.  We also discuss HIPPA and discuss monitoring staff as well as examples of time management. 

The final class is Class #6.  In this class the focus is on understanding and caring for residents with different cultures, caring for veterans, and understanding the acronyms used in the LGBTQ community and providing care for this population as well as resident rights.
