The ASCOM Program is a Certificate of Mastery Program that yields an official certificate and 6/10.0 contact hours for nurses. The program is a prerequisite to be eligible to sit for the NADONA Antibiotic Stewardship Specialist Board Certification. The ASCOM Program is designed to cover in-depth details of a comprehensive Antibiotic Stewardship program.

The ASCOM Program is offered online and in person site training. Courses are available at any time and are 6 weeks long per webinar (10 contact hours) or 1-day onsite training with 6 contact hours for nurses. A Certificate of Mastery is awarded at the time of completion but no credentials or designations. To earn a credential/designation, healthcare professionals must sit for the official ASCOM board certification (AS-BC).

Requirements

  • Participants must view all six webinars.

  • Participants must pass all 6 post-tests with 80% or better and complete and submit an overall evaluation.

  • In addition, the participants of the enduring program must submit all assignments and they must be accepted. Enduring program must be completed prior to July 1, 2026

  • No one with the ability to control content of this activity has a relevant financial relationship with an ineligible company.

The ASCOM program was specifically designed to meet the CMS requirements for a formal antibiotic stewardship program. The content covered in the ASCOM program includes the following:

  • Core Terminology

  • Effects of Antibiotic Resistance

  • Antibiotic Stewardship Overview

  • CDC Core Elements of an Antibiotic Stewardship Program

  • Protecting Patients

  • Monitoring and Compliance

This nursing continuing professional development activity was submitted for approval by the Wisconsin Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
